"Cultivating Community” Outdoor Family Fun Event
Area families are invited to attend a free, fun, outdoor family event at the Old School Produce garden on Saturday, April 24, 2021 from 10:00 - Noon. The garden is located at 811 D Avenue in Vinton.Kids will get to plant a flower to take home and go on a nature-themed scavenger hunt. This event is a collaboration between Better Tomorrows Early Childhood Iowa, Family Nurturing Council, the Farm to School program and Old School Produce Partners in support of the National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Annual Breakfast Fundraiser for Van Horne First Responders
The Annual Breakfast Fundraiser for Van Horne First Responders will be held on Sunday, April 11th, serving from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Van Horne Emergency Response Station. The menu includes, scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, cinnamon rolls, biscuits and gravy, juice and milk. This will be a drive-up, freewill offering fundraiser.
Tenderloin Dinner Friday, April 9th at the American Legion
For $8.00, you can have an 8 oz Tenderloin on a Bun, with French Fries and a Dessert, on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The members of the Vinton Legion George G. Luckey Post 57 will be serving the meal at the Legion Hall in Vinton. The Legion is located at 105 North R Ave., in Vinton.Everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy a meal and support the local Legion.
Early Arts Study Club to Meet April 19
The Early Arts Study Club will meet on April 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Claudette Alpers as hostess. Jo Schmidt will present the program on Norman Rockwell.

FFA to hold Labor Auction, Thursday, April 8th
By Josh Wiley, Co-ReporterAt 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 8th, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter will be holding their annual labor auction in the high school gymnasium. Members of the chapter will be voluntarily “auctioned off” to complete 8 hours of work for the highest bidder that purchased them. The buyer may put the member to work in a variety of activities but, common areas of work include babysitting, garden work, working livestock, chores, walking beans, fence building, as well as working at food stands at local county fairs and other events.
Central Lutheran School hold Spring Fling, Saturday, April 10th
Central Lutheran School’s (CLS) Spring Fling will be taking place on Saturday, April 10th beginning at 4:00 p.m. The church is located at 310 3rd St. W. in Newhall. The event is held every two years. All money raised will benefit the school and programs. Due to the Derecho and damages to the school, this will be a particularly important Spring Fling fundraising effort.
